My Wardrobe.

This week I'm beggining a new column titled MY WARDROBE column, which basically consists of nosing around other peoples closets (my favorite past time).

First up we have Faye Smithy, a fashion graduate with a bright future ahead of her.  During a stint of interning at Fabulous magazine, Faye and I bonded over mutual love for all forms of attire.

Since our departure from the Sunday weekly  we have put together a life plan on how to conquer the world of fashion (unfortunately we havn’t got very far with putting this into action).  Faye’s wardrobe always intrigued me (her style was a beautiful mess) so I decided to have a gander inside her Wardrobe, to find out what inspires her and where she buys her gorgeous garms.

Charity shop CHEEK

Well this blog inspiration comes right from Alice herself. I met Alice when she joined myself and another intern on a lifestyle weekly, and during that first day she made it her mission to find something I was wearing that wasn’t from a charity shop. I’m sorry to say she failed her task, as that day she couldn’t find a single non vintage item on me.

I HEART charity shops and that’s heart with a capital H. So I have decided to show you my favourite finds and give you my top 5 tips for snapping up a bargain.

First up in my favourite finds we have my lovely Ralph Laurent check shirt that got me through this winter.

Number 2 has to be this Patricia fields jumper.

Number 3 Purple is my FAVORITE colour so I had to buy this, I wear it with my brogues.

Number 4, This amazing Levi jacket cost me an AMAZING 5quids. (don’t hate on me)

Number 5 This incredible sequined jacket cost me only 4quid (!) and I wore it to reading festival.

Number 6, Vintage Russell and Bromley shoes. Whoopa!

Number 7, My amazing brown kitten heels that I have had for about 4years (I’ll never let go)

Number 8, All these bags are from the charity shops, starting from 50p a pop

And finally Number 9 has to be my headscarf’s, I wouldn’t buy head scarf’s from anywhere else but the charity shop. These were all 50p each.

There we have it. Now time for my Top 5 tips on how to snap up the ultimate bargain.

1, always buy BLACK LACE and VELVET. No matter what it is.

2, buy to customise. If it’s too long, CUT IT.

3, NEVER forget to check all the shoes and bags that get stacked in box’s

4, buy ANY Levi denim, it will never go out of style.

5, Most importantly ALWAYS be open minded.

 FAYE

xx

Also Faye will be back on this blog very soon as I’m away for fashion week (tragic) so she will be covering as many shows as humanly possible, giving everyone who can’t be there first hand (which includes me!) a taste of the action.

Thrifty Trends

Recently I was approached by Voucher codes to take part in a thrifty New Year challenge listing ten of my favourite trends for 2010. After thinking about this I decided that although ten trends in ten different items of clothing would be a perfect piece. Kind of a SS10 capsule wardrobe, below is a list of items to see you through SS10 and beyond on a thrifty budget.
Firstly I have to tell you, lace. It’s here to stay this season.  It seems the trend is being carried all the way into 2010, and I still can’t get enough of it. Addicted to American Apparel I find myself fawning over this dress although I shouldn’t buy it, (I own enough lace), at £40.00 its a steal.

Next up we have the skater trend. You have to love this trend, as its feminine and flattering for all. I already have this black version from ASOS, which also has a super cute lace up back.  Dressed up or down for £28.00, it’s an absolute winner.

Thirdly, forget about wearing that super cute bra under your T shirt this season, SS10 is all about underwear as outerwear. So invest in some pretty underwear to see you through this season. I love this Paisley print bralet (£20.00), perfect for rocking the trend wear over a super tight bodycon trend and your there.

Number four is Nautical. Back with a bang for yet another season, nautical 2010 is chic and cheerful. The key to conquering the nautical trend in ss’10 is to keep the look simple traditional, so wear it with a cute mac coat for full results. This ASOS number is flattering for all, highly versatile and just £18.00 (giving it a high CPW factor).

With the arrival of the Alexa bag in Mulberry stores worldwide, it’s clear to see slouchy leather holdalls are going to be big this season.  Yes ‘it’ bags are so 2007, l but they are back with a bang this year I’m afraid, and anyone who’s anyone will be donning a leather slouchy one way or another. So although the Alexa at approximately  £695.00 may be a distant dream to most of us there are alternative ways to conquer the trend. While it’s no Alexa, this bag conquers the leather slouchy trend without breaking the bank balance. At a mear £35.00, I know I’ve already got mine on order.

At number six we have Lace up boots, another trend which look certain to stick around to 2010. Check these ASOS beauties’ out, perfect for formal work wear or going out glam, these remind me of Kurt Geiger’s hot AW ’09 shoe boots. Also hitting the mark with their humble heel (2010 is all about the subtle heel) as they Perfect for any occasion, and quite reasonably priced, what are you waiting for??!

Last year Alexander Wang decided distressed knits were cool again, and lo and behold everywhere I go I now see girls are messing it up. As its not a neat trend I would advise keeping it messy chic, hit the mark and don yours with brogues and a black body con. Yet another ASOS buy, (there just getting it so right, right now) This jumper also conquers the nude trend which was all over the SS10 catwalk. I love.

Next up following the nude phenomenon we have harem pants which are here for another season.  I have been lusting after these topshop beauties for a while, and I think now may definitely be the time to invest. Team them with a leotard and the ASOS boots above to achieve a truly enviable SS10 look.

Trend number 8 is Florals. But not as you know it. These floral pants are daring, but unavoidable this season. Team with a light airy white top and a leather slouchy for the maximum effect.

Trend number 9 is clashing prints. Not for the fait hearted a way to tackle this trend would be to combine your nautical top with your flowery harem pants... (not sure I'm brave enough to tackle this trend though..)

Trend number ten is to be yourself! All of the above trends are suggestions, not strict rules. If your not comfortable in it, don’t wear it. But be sure for any follower of fashion, a combination of the above trend is sure to see you through SS10 and beyond. Happy Shopping!
